Chapter 6

If training were the only way you would get stronger, than you would make the most out of the small moment of peace you were given. It was difficult for you to punch someone who held no ill will towards you, and you were shocked that he released some sort of energy attack at you without warning!

You grumbled and walked away from the spot you placed your barrier. It disappeared shortly after you lost focus. Taking a deep sigh, you edged further away from your new mentor so you could have a look at your natural surroundings.

Perhaps you were too eager to learn how to use your psychic powers, that you didn't think about the price tag attached to it. You glanced behind to notice your training partner appeared bored. His sharp eyes followed your stare.

You weren't comfortable with a staring contest, so you adverted your eyes and walked to the closest tree. Your hand rubbed your redden cheek. Profanity was your choice of dialogue as you touched the tender area on your face.

"Did I seriously get punched in the face?" you muttered aloud and sat underneath the shady branches of the tree.

You turned to look where Mewtwo went. He disappeared.

You were suddenly alarmed by his vanishing. Where did that crazy cat go?

A lavender colored tail smacked you from the side. You yelped in surprise before jumping back up.

Where did that tail come from? You wondered what would be smacking you.

While you were distracted, another tail attack slammed you forward.

You landed on the ground, coughing.

"I was taking a break!" you complained.

"I didn't say how long you could take one," Mewtwo's sly voice echoed close to your ear.

You growled in annoyance before struggling to stand back on your feet.

A dark colored ball of energy zipped close by, and you shrieked in surprise. Your barrier reappeared.

"You allow me to hit you with physical attacks, yet my psychic abilities cause you to make your shield. This needs to be corrected," Mewtwo stated.

You started to notice that you had no control when your psychics powers become activated.

Mewtwo stopped his attacks and calmly walked back up to you.

"You should treat me as a threat, as with anyone else," Mewtwo said.

You took a deep breath before the barrier fell again, and you became dizzy.

Falling forward, you were caught by your mentor.

"You strained yourself while creating that barrier," Mewtwo realized. "I can see why you can only use it for so long."

"I'm seriously too tired," you complained.

You felt like your energy was depleted. You were starting to doze off. You didn't even realize you were being held.

Soon, you feel unconscious from exhaustion.

You awoke back within the room you occupied at the Holy Ditto Order church.

Instead of seeing your new mentor, you saw the concerned figure of Deoxys.

He stood close by, and his eyes were a bit unnerving.

"Were you... watching me sleep?" you questioned with raised eyebrows.

He nodded his head, and kept a respectable distance.

"You're afraid to get close to me because of Mewtwo's warning, aren't you?" you asked.

He confirmed with another nod, "I apologize for getting in your space. It wasn't my place to read your thoughts. Disrespectful. Meloetta had no place to disturb you, either."

You actually started to forget the small little creature. She didn't stay long in your thoughts at all.

"It seems Mew had picked her offspring to be your mentor. Wise choice. You will learn much from him. He happens to be the strongest of the psychics. There will be no one to match his intellect or power. Congratulations," Deoxys stated plainly.

It seemed that the red and blue colored psychic maintained his posture, and hid any excitement that would have been within his tone of voice.

You gestured with a pat for Deoxys to sit beside you.

His eyes shifted worriedly, but he was cautious to sit away from you.

"Did you ever train a human psychic?" you asked.

Deoxys nodded, "Yes, I have. I was told not to speak of the other humans being trained. That information is to be kept quiet for now."

"Why have you guys been clustering together?" you wondered.

Deoxys' bright neon green eyes looked at you in amusement, "It seems that each new member will be kept in the dark for awhile. I'll be generous with my information for you, human girl. We're trying to make the world a better place. Mew has already given you much information that would only be repeated. Know that here, you will be accepted for what you are... and we can offer you kinship if you desire."

What did Deoxys mean by kinship? Did the 'psychic crusaders' that you labeled them, find themselves within a family of sorts?

"Mewtwo spoke of his... introduction to your training. It sounded painful. Forgive my indulgence, but I feel it to be cruel to force you to fight. You are not a fighter, (Name). You are a protector. I could feel your energy the moment we came in contact with you. Perhaps you could strengthen this absorption barrier you can conceive," Deoxys stated.

You never did feel like you could fight, it wasn't in your blood to harm.

"Your reasons are your own to despise the label of trainer, and I will respect that. I will refer to you as a psychic, as a sister to our growing family if you so desire," Deoxys offered.

It seemed that Deoxys understood you better than the others you have met so far. He took time to get to know you, even if it meant reading your mind.

"There are very few defensive psychics. That is information that I can give freely. Perhaps there are some like Mewtwo who specialize well offensively and defensively, but for some... like me, I specialize merely in attack. It is not a bad thing to only do well in one category," Deoxys explained.

"How about Vardae? What kind of psychic would she be?" you inquired.

"Offensive and easily angered. Despite her species as a Gardevoir, she focuses on her talent to confuse and trick her opponents. Perhaps being part fairy type adds to her fighting style," Deoxys said.

You scratched your head in thought.

"You're not weak, (Name). Do not feel that you must be something you're not. I am disrespectful to say this, but I personally feel that Mewtwo is not the right mentor for you," Deoxys stated honestly.

You looked at him in confusion, "Why do you say that?"

"A punching match to make you understand basic survival instincts? That's ridiculous! You should have been focusing on your personal values and why you are a defensive psychic to begin with. I can understand the need for you to toughen up, but... pain can only go so far. You should accept your weaknesses and learn from them, not butcher yourself to be something you're not," Deoxys remarked.

His tendril arms warped to become human in appearance. He placed the human appearing hands to his chest.

"I know that I'm not the strongest protector, that my skills are best harnessed in combat. Despite this being my flaw, I accept it. You may be wondering, how can an offensive psychic possibly help a defensive psychic?" he spoke softly, and wrapped his fingers around yours.

"I personally believe that our differences makes us a better match, I understand your weaknesses, and you can see mine. I would not force you to fight against me, and push you to feel like dirt. The challenge I would present would be teamwork, not single combat. It wouldn't matter how much Mewtwo pushed you into using physical attacks... you're only human," he stated.

You were quite uncomfortable with the training process, how Mewtwo threatened you, or used his energy attacks against you without warning.

You looked at how Deoxys' fingers linked together with yours. His hands were an interesting blend of red and blue.

Perhaps a gentler approach would be better suited for you, but Mew picked her son to be your mentor, not Deoxys.

"I'm sure there's a reason that Mew picked Mewtwo to be my teacher," you grumbled.

Deoxys shook his head, "Honestly, she's not always the best judge of character. She'll guess who works well together."

You really didn't feel comfortable recalling how Mewtwo gave you a very light punch that sent you flying and knocked out your breath, the joke about your organs still being in place made you regret taking the training process.

Perhaps if you asked Mew, she might let you try training with Deoxys, instead?

You saw Deoxys quickly moved away from the bed and stood upright in a rigid posture. Mewtwo had appeared at the doorway.

"You're awake," noted the psychic cat.

You nodded and looked at your feet.

Mewtwo's first reaction was to glare at Deoxys, "I'm assuming you kept your distance this time, space virus?"

Deoxys nodded without looking at Mewtwo.

"Don't be an ass, Mewtwo. You shouldn't call names!" you warned him.

Mewtwo chuckled, "You didn't know? Deoxys is from space. A virus that actually fell from space and became sentient due to some sort of radiation. I don't know all the details, but I wouldn't get too friendly with him. You might catch something."

You clinched your fists and glared at him, "Why are you being rude? You know what? I don't want to train with you. I don't care what Mew said. I would rather train with Deoxys!"

"Is that so?" Mewtwo said with a grunt, and looked passively towards you. "Be my guest, I'm not forcing you to endure the hardship. You can be a weak psychic if you want. I merely offered my services due to my mother's orders."

Mewtwo left the room.

Deoxys looked at you in disbelief, "You actually back talked the strongest being here? You also have your appendages still in place?"

You huffed and crossed your arms, "The nerve he has! Mommy issues and a big ego!"

"He doesn't tolerate insults, and has a bit of a savage temper. I'm surprised you got away with that," Deoxys stated.

"I'm a human. He knows I'm just a weak little girl. What the hell can I do to hurt him?" you asked.

"He has pride, you know. I didn't think you would actually speak to him about this matter we discussed. It would have been more polite to ask Mew," Deoxys stated.

Did you really hurt Mewtwo's feelings by refusing to train with him? He wasn't gentle! You didn't like how he was helping you. It was too brutal.

You might have felt somewhat bad about refusing to train with Mewtwo, but you didn't like his methods at all.

You wondered how Mew would react to find that you went against her. It might get ugly.

"DEOXYS!" screamed an angry shrilling voice.

You saw Deoxys winced. He quietly moved away from the door.

Mew popped her head in, with a demonic glint in her eyes.

"Deoxys, dear. I must speak to you!" Mew demanded.

She glanced around, and didn't see him. You didn't seen where he disappeared to, either.

Mew's glare settled on you momentarily, "I guess I'll see you for now, (Name)!"

You were starting to find the mother-son relationship to be awkward. It was mind boggling to find Mew acting like a vengeful mother looking out for her helpless child.

You crossed your arms in defiance, "I didn't like Mewtwo's training methods. He was too rough with me!"

"Girl, you haven't seen how I train. Mewtwo is quite tame with his teaching style. You wouldn't want to be my student. I would accidentally tear you apart," she stated.

You gulped quietly, remembering Mewtwo's idea of a weak punch. Mew's idea of a punch would be vastly different.

"You're quite stubborn, and this is why I paired you up with Mewtwo. Except... Mewtwo isn't arguing about it," Mew remarked. Her blue eyes lit up in amusement.

"He was disrespectful," you stated. "I disliked how he was training me. I want to try training with Deoxys."

"Despite the fact that my son is a much stronger psychic, you have a preference to train with Deoxys," Mew mused.

"It's within my best interest. I feel that I want to give him a chance. You heard the results of the first session. I can't go through that again," you explained. You weren't going to argue with her.

"So young and disrespectful yourself. You are similar to my child. I will pardon your insolence for this one time," she stated.

Mew was quick to glance around the room. You occasionally saw her eyes twitch in annoyance.

"My dear Deoxys... I will not tolerate these games of hide and seek with you. I am not like my son. I have no sense of patience, but a strong sense of punishment!" she growled.

You witnessed Deoxys quickly appearing in the room. His tendril arms were shaking nervously.

Mew was quick to grab him by the leg and drag him out, "Let's talk."

His eyes widened while he warped his tendrils into hands and he tried to claw the floor.

"Help me!" he begged quietly while Mew's face twisted into an evil smile.

He disappeared from being dragged out the bedroom door. Mew's antics were strangely amusing. You felt bad for Deoxys, though.

You pulled your knees to your chest with a smile on your face. The look on Deoxy's face was priceless. You figured it would be best to watch out for the distraught psychic. Deoxys was probably going to suffer under Mew's wrath. You left the room to go locate your new space buddy. He was probably a goner by then.

The main hall was quick to appear in your vision. You saw what remained of Deoxys. He was tied up and hanging by his own tendril arms.

He was found teary eyed and he wiggled to loosen up the tied tendril arms.

You approached him and offered him help by holding up your hands to reach him. Mew was quick to appear and stop you.

"Please don't remove my newest decoration. I made it in art class," she smiled.

You held up your hands defensively and turned away without incident.

It was probably best for you to leave for awhile. It looked like Mew was interested in interrogating Deoxys.
